In the serene embrace of South Tyrol’s valleys, Helmut Kritzinger, the esteemed former Federal Council President of the Republic of Austria (August 15, 1928 – October 28, 2023), and Erika Lechthaler (August 28, 1937 – December 2, 2023) sought solace in each other’s presence. Helmut’s life resonated with resilience, shaped by the unyielding spirit rooted in Sarnthein’s soil. Erika, an effervescent soul from Vezzan, carried the symphonies of classical music within her heart. Destiny, akin to an artist wielding an enchanted brush, intricately intertwined their fates amidst Sarnthein’s enchanting streets, scripting an eternal love tale. 12/14 Christmas Blessings: Nepal’s Teens and Tots Receive Coats, School Supplies, and Backpacks – The Ultimate Gift of the Year

In the aftermath of the Nepal earthquake, many survivors found themselves grappling with plummeting temperatures, their lives hanging on amidst the dire conditions in tents. Despite this, dedicated volunteers persisted, determined to provide relief. Their efforts saw the distribution of 200 jackets, 200 sets of stationery, and an additional 100 backpacks meant for students in remote mountainous regions. Even now, the commitment remains strong as we continue our efforts to deliver more aid to Nepal, especially focusing on helping the children enduring the harsh cold weather.

During this season of gratitude and plenty, our Teen Annching Zhang led our community in a heartwarming initiative called ‘Harvest of Hope.’ Together, people from various backgrounds united to create and distribute Thanksgiving food baskets to families experiencing difficulties. Each basket, brimming with essential sustenance and festive treats, became a symbol of care and solidarity. This act of generosity went beyond just providing food; it brought joy, solace, and a sense of unity during a challenging period for those in need. It wasn’t just about nourishing bodies; it was about uplifting spirits and embodying the true essence of the season.

Coordinating pickups from three different restaurants, the team curated a banquet of gratitude to be delivered to the senior center. Beyond merely providing meals, each dish carried heartfelt wishes for a beautiful Thanksgiving, intending to envelop these seniors in the warmth of care and companionship. It wasn’t just a meal delivery; it was a profound gesture to reassure these elders that they are valued and remembered, even in the quiet corners of the world.

10/6 Empowering Dreams: A Journey of Hope and Education in Nepal

Nepal, a nation plagued by poverty, rugged terrain, and stark social disparities, continues to struggle for education. Despite the relentless efforts of the government, the recent 2023 survey paints a disheartening picture: the national literacy rate stands at 75% for men and a mere 57% for women. However, these figures only represent averages. For the marginalized ‘untouchables’ and those residing in the remote mountainous regions, the dream of education remains a distant reality.
In the inaugural phase of our educational initiative, we have embarked on a mission that transcends mere impact; we aspire to make a profound difference. Our goal is to support two small-scale projects, assisting two ‘untouchable’ classes already benefiting from free education assistance, and aiding two elementary schools nestled in the heart of the mountainous regions. We provide essentials such as shoes, winter clothing, and stationery, ensuring these children travel to and from school safely, shielded from the harsh elements, and enhancing their learning experience.
Children embody our future, and their growth can’t wait. With unwavering support, we expand their horizons and transform their lives. Survivors of the Maui wildfire now confront a new threat: lingering chemical contamination from harmful substances released into the air and water. To address this risk, we’ve donated 250 x N95 masks to Maui AIDS Foundation (MAF). In these challenging times, such gestures of support remind us that even in darkness, there are rays of light and acts of kindness that illuminate the way forward.

9/24 Community Unity and Support: Ayi Can Help’s Compassionate Response to Typhoon Haikui

In the wake of the turmoil and destruction caused by Typhoon Haikui in Taiwan, the aftermath was nothing short of heart-wrenching. Countless families found themselves uprooted, their homes reduced to rubble, and their lives thrown into chaos. However, amidst this overwhelming catastrophe, a ray of hope began to shine.

Pastor Zongxian You, a dedicated advocate for underprivileged children in rural villages, had been running an after-school study program aimed at assisting 100 impoverished kids in their educational journey. His goal was to empower these young minds with education, providing them with a pathway out of poverty. Unfortunately, the ferocity of Typhoon Haikui wreaked havoc on everything they had worked for.

In this time of dire need, Ayi Can Help stepped in, launching a fundraising initiative that, combined with the efforts of local volunteers, raised $3,000 USD. These funds were swiftly mobilized to provide much-needed food and relief to the village, rescuing and sustaining the lives of these 100 children and teenagers who had been thrust into the midst of a disaster. This heartwarming tale serves as a testament to the power of community and compassion, even in the face of the most challenging circumstances. Thank you, cheerful giver (喜福姐姐), for your generous contribution of fish fillets, German sausages, and frozen asparagus.

9/11 Our ongoing relief efforts for the MAUI wildfires have been structured as follows:

1) We extended our support to the frontline firefighters and first responders, expressing our heartfelt gratitude for their selfless dedication in protecting the community, even at the cost of their own homes. They stand as valiant guardians.

2) In response to the urgent request from Maui Island’s public schools, we stepped up to offer a helping hand. Our assistance extended to families with infants and those in need of special care, and we were guided by Maui Island’s public schools to provide essential supplies to over 40 needy families. Our contributions included a generous supply of items valued at over $1,000, including 2,000 diapers and baby wipes, 800 bottles of drinking water, baby foods, formula for newborns, bulk shampoo (2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner) for displaced families, underwear, blankets for a well-deserved rest, fans, gym class sneakers, and t-shirts. This comprehensive support aimed to provide immediate relief and comfort to those affected.

In a less privileged corner of Baltimore, a tiny act of kindness set a monumental change in motion. A band of kindhearted souls converged, armed with backpacks brimming with school essentials. Children, their eyes gleaming with hope, gathered eagerly as the backpacks found new owners.

Among them, a soft-spoken girl with grand aspirations. She cradled her backpack as though holding a treasure trove. In a hushed voice, she murmured, “These will open up a world of learning for me.” Fueled by this gesture, she plunged into her studies, becoming a fixture at the local library. But she wasn’t navigating this path alone. The community rallied, offering mentorship and valuable resources.

As the years rolled by, the transformation was nothing short of astonishing. The once shadowed neighborhood, tarnished by adversity, now radiated with the radiance of dreams fulfilled. All sparked by a modest gift – backpacks filled not only with school supplies, but with the promise of a brighter tomorrow for Baltimore.

Maui’s serene landscapes were engulfed by relentless wildfires, leaving neighborhoods in ruins and landmarks charred. Ayi’s devoted volunteers, Cindy Wu and Denny Luan, sprang into action, swiftly delivering crucial donations to ILWU (international longshoremen warehouse union) on Oahu HI. Packed with precision, supplies are en route to Maui shelters, extending vital aid to victims.

Ayi’s commitment transcends delivery – it’s a mission of rekindling hope. As they monitor pressing needs and collaborate with local educators, they empower homeless and victimized children to return to school, kindling a brighter future amid adversity.

Two compassionate teenage girls Ms. Nicole Lin and Chloe Lin volunteered their time at Little Sisters of the Poor senior center, offering a heartwarming gesture that touched the lives of the elderly residents. With care and gentleness, they dedicated themselves to providing manicures and pedicures, bringing moments of joy and relaxation to the seniors. Their acts of kindness not only beautified nails but also nurtured connections, creating lasting memories and reminding us all of the power of human touch and the importance of intergenerational bonds.

In loving memory of Dr. Wu, the Wu family commemorated his 100th day of passing by delivering meals to Little Sisters of the Poor, fulfilling his heartfelt wish to continue caring for the elderly even in his absence. Additionally, the volunteers also brought a reprinted autobiography of Ms. Philomena Hsieh, written by Father Chu and provided by Guangqi Society in Taiwan, to share the inspiring story of Ms. Philomena Hsieh’s perseverance and triumph with all the residents in the nursing home.

Ms. Philomena Hsieh, a resident at Little Sisters of the Poor, is an elderly individual facing dementia. With limited family support for the past decade, our dedicated teenage volunteer, Henry Huang, has taken it upon himself to visit Grandma Hsieh regularly. On the occasion of her 90th birthday on May 3rd, Teen Henry Hung went above and beyond by bringing balloons, cake, and ice cream to commemorate this significant milestone and express his profound care and admiration for the elderly to Grandma Hsieh.

We fondly remember Dr. Tzong Tang Wu and Dr. Gin-Weigh Wu, PhD, through the gracious donation of two magnificent eucalyptus wood benches to our community. These benches, now proudly displayed at the entrance of the Little Sister for the Poor Center, have swiftly become a beloved gathering spot for  senior residents. With their serene and inviting presence, they offer a perfect space for center seniors to come together, socialize, and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

We can all do our part in helping those affected by the earthquake. One way to do so is by donating to reputable organizations that are working to provide relief and assistance to those affected. These organizations are providing shelter, food, and medical care to those who have been displaced or injured.

The road to recovery for those affected by the earthquake will be long and difficult, but we can make a difference by coming together and supporting those in need. Let us continue to offer our assistance and support to the people of Turkey during this difficult time.

Grandma Wu was a compassionate and benevolent individual with a profound love for children and their education. Together with her family, she sponsored indigenous children in Taiwan, enabling them to attend school through their church organization. Their heartfelt intention was to empower these children, helping them reshape their destinies and fulfill their dreams. Each time Grandma Wu witnessed these children proudly walking to school, carrying their backpacks, she experienced immense satisfaction and joy. She recognized that her modest contribution could be the pivotal factor in these children’s journey towards success.
